Port Stanley became capital of the Falkland Islands in 1845, and along with the rest of the islands is a British Overseas Territory, although Argentina has contested this sovereignty for almost 200 years, most notably in 1982. The town itself has extensive displays from this conflict, and also about the flora, fauna and wildlife of the area. Gentoo and Magellanic penguins, oystercatchers, grebes and kelp geese can be seen here |
