Arrive

Located on the Straits of Magellan, named after Portuguese explorer, Ferdinand Magellan when he discovered them in 1519; Punta Arenas is a cosmopolitan city, where fishermen mix with Chilean air force pilots and travelers who are heading to Tierra del Fuego. The Naval and Maritime Museum has a number of historical naval exhibits, and nearby Magdalena Island is home to the largest colony of Magellanic penguin in Chile, as some 60,000 pairs nest here.
