Arica is a main commercial hub in South America, and also home to the oldest mummies in the world, which can be seen at the Museo de Sitio Colón. The Gothic–style Catedral de San Marcos is Arica's most colourful and iconic building; and the natural 110 metre high rock, El Morro, which looks out over the city and is home to the Museo Histórico y de Armas, telling the story of a battle between the Chilean and Peruvian armies which took place here.
